Deep in the north of Bavaria lies a landscape shaped by rolling hills, striking rock formations, castle ruins, caves, and beer gardens. Named by 19th-century Romantic artists who likened it to Switzerland, Franconian Switzerland may as well have been designed for cycling.
Starting in Nürnberg at SALA Cycling Collective, this loop combines champagne gravel, technical forest trails, short sections of tarmac, and punchy climbs. The route winds northeast of Nuremberg through valleys and plateaus, past historic villages and natural landmarks, with plenty of opportunities to pause for local food and beer.
A cultural and physical core route — exploratory, textured, and unmistakably Franconian.
